Google News

  • Google renames its “Webmaster Guidelines” to “Google Search Essentials“. Nothing else has changed in the guidelines, but they are still worth checking out if you haven’t already. They are a high-level overview of what Google is looking for, giving you a good idea of what you should and shouldn’t be doing.
  • Google has also renamed “Data Studio” to “Looker Studio“. Nothing has changed within this analytics visualisation tool, but hopefully, we will see things improve over the coming months. 
  • Google Search introduces site names on Mobile Search results. Google has now introduced site names on mobile search results to make it easier to identify which website is associated with each result. This helps with brand recognition and trust. 
  • Google also shows more images in its Google Shopping search results on desktop. This aim is to help make it easier and more intuitive to find what you’re looking for. 
  • Google has responded to Meta’s video-generating AI with its own AI video-generation tool. Imagen Video can generate video clips when given a text prompt. It’s still early days for this type of tool, but it shows great promise for the future.

  • More AI news from Microsoft, they have added DALL-E to Microsoft Office Suite. This tool can generate an image to go with your text when you are writing. 

Social Media News

  • YouTube has added handles – a new way to identify your YouTube channel. So, now you can have a handle on YouTube similar to Twitter, Instagram and TikTok, making it easier to tag people. 

Other Tech News

  • The Tech Giants – Apple, Amazon, Google, Meta & Microsoft – have all combined to improve voice recognition, especially for those with a non-standard speech pattern.
