While many of us were winding down for the summer holidays in July – Google seemed to be ramping up regarding search ranking updates, with chatter suggesting that there were at least five unconfirmed updates (although the rumour is that there were many more). They also rolled out a quality update for their Search Generative Experience and finally launched the perspectives filter – but more on that below.

Google News

  • It looks like Google released a series of algorithm updates in July – although they still need to be confirmed. Within the SEO community, the belief is that one of these updates was a Broad Core Algorithm Update which has brought about significant changes to how search results are ranked on the Search Engine Results Pages (SERPs) – based on the high level of volatility in the search results, across a wide range of industries. There is no need to panic, though; it is our job to keep an eye on these updates and tweak your campaign if need be – although, as our SEO campaigns are built on a solid base, it is doubtful that anything significant will need to be adjusted.
  • Google also released the first quality updates for the new Google Search Generative Experience it rolled out a few weeks ago, with the most noticeable update being the major speed boast it has given to generating AI snapshots.
  • In July, Google released the perspectives filter in the Google Mobile Search Results. According to Google, the perspectives search filter will “give you long- and short-form videos, images and written posts that people have shared on social media platforms.” It will also show you more details about the people who have created the content you are seeing – such as name, profile photo and popularity of their content.
  • Google also rolled out its new Search Quality Feedback Form in July, allowing feedback to be now submitted about paid links, malicious behaviour, low-quality content, and other search quality issues – rather than just spam.
  • Some exciting news for eCommerce sites as well: Google also rolled out a new feature (in the US) allowing users to try clothing and products on models virtually. This feature uses generative AI to show clothes on various real models. It has also added new filters to make it easier for users to narrow their search.
